Default Stronger frontend?

I made my first real trek on the island today, the roads are pretty horrible. I seemed to knock the front end out of alignment. There are no auto shops on the island so I have decided to look into a beefier frontend but need a place to start. Any recommendations for a stronger tie rod system? This is on my 88 XJ with a 4.5 lift.

X2 zj v8 tie rod is a good cheep way to go. I belive currie's got a steering set up out that's pretty beefy, there's some beefy one ton setups out there too, if you want to spend some money

It really boils down to what you use the xj for.

Its an everyday driver on non maintained roads. Most cars around here last about two years before they fall apart. I just helped push a lady in a Saturn off the road because her CV joint and lower ball joint came apart while driving to work. Brutal is an understatement about the road condition here on the island.

I'm guessing you don't have easy access to a JY. This gets you a set of V8 zj tie rod parts that will bolt right on.

MOOG ES3096L Tie Rod End $24.89
MOOG DS1312 Tie Rod End $46.79
MOOG ES2079S Tie Rod End Adjusting Sleeve

I vote for beefier double sheer track-bar with frame brace, for me that made more difference than any other steering mods.

I already have a double shear track bar with drop bracket, I do need to get the extra frame brace for it though. The problem was my tie rod and that little collar that is supposed to hold it all together.

I am leaning towards the one ton front steering bars with the inserts. I just have to figure out if I can drill the knuckles 7/8 with what tools I have available to me.

I have read that the drilling process for the 1 ton inserts is best done on a mill. Using a drill and doing it by hand can be off allowing for a loose hole for the insert. I like the setup from RuffStuff.com. Works under or over the knuckle using TREs and the price is pretty good. I used to run thr Rugged Ridge setup on my YJ but the TREs blow out really fast.

The only part that is best drilled on a drillpress is the pitman arm.

I use the Currie setup, it is beef, prob not what I would choose for a 35" tire rock buggy but for a daily diving Wheeler it's hard to beat. Drops right in and is built with lift in mind so your tre are sitting in a neutral state while lifted.
