Stock Rear Bumper Upgrade?!?
So I'm thinking of just adding on to my stock bumper by bending some pipe, and welding on to what's already there... Can anyone think of any reason that this has not been done yet? Am I just adding insult to injury by doing this? I just cant justify spending $350 + on a rear bumper... Just looking for some friendly advice... Thanks!

At $230 shipped, this one from Ryan's Fab looks to fit with the end caps in the pics.

Sort of stock look with good function at a better price point. Not sure how cheap you were looking but, that's not bad.

Ya I've seen those, and I like them, but I'm going for more of a custom look. I'm just wondering how "trail tested tough" it's gonna be. Not sure due to the construction if the stock bumper. But I do really like the Ryan Fab front bumpers....

Hi saw this thread, so i made my self a front bumper, and while i was waiting for my paint to dry. I made up alittle hoop with braces from some scrap i had left over. I think it turned out ok. And its pretty damn strong. Has hold up to pulling out a yota time and time again. Hahaha. And i think it adds a custom look to the jeep. Brings the tube work full round on the jeep too.
Kinda of a crappy pic tho..... I can take/post another if u want...?

The problem with building off the rear bumper is 1. Its made of thin steel and 2. It doesent have tie in's that run through the unibody. Could it hold a tire? Yeah sure. But I wouldent make it a tow point withought some reinforcment.

I disagree i have used mine as a tow point before, even in a tug of war match with a yota. It will hold up... Probly wont work if u in deep mudd or really really stuck but it works for tugs. And i like the look of it.

If someone is looking for recovery points do it right otherwise it will hurt you down the road
To the op maybe look into getting a receiver hitch that way you can keep your stock bumper

Dont get me wrong i completly agree that its not a good tow point at all! Never use it for more then a litteral tug. Light tug. All im trying to say is for looks, it will hold up fine! Ive backed into acouple trees on trails and its still straight. So all im trying to get across is that for looks or style it works great. If he wants to just add some style go for it. But yes i have a reciever hitch that i use as my tow point out back. Worka great as a dull purpose.
