Stock brake lines rusted, need to extend
I have a set of Rusty's extended lines for the Jeep. I loosened up the caliper end of the line just fine, but the nut that is attached to the bracket is rusted on there. I've used PB blaster and Freeze Off and I'm about to round it off. What are my options?

That block is whats being removed which is then already on the stainless line. There are brake line wrenches that just have an opening that large enough for the 1/4" line. basically gives you more bite on the head of the fitting. if youve rounded it off already then you might as well get a new line. driver side rear is about 20" and the passenger side is 51" but they only sell in 10" increments so I got a 60" and just put a big U shaped bend under the passenger leaf spring.
It wasnt to hard to replace the rear. I gave up when my fronts broke, now everything is new excepts the header line going back to the flex line for the rear. |
My rears are already extended, just need to get these stainless ones on the front. Can I cut the line right above the nut that connects to the bracket, and flare it out and just attach my new stainless line? If I did that, what fitting am I looking at?

I'm going to start researching cutting the rusted nut off, then flaring that section out and running the extended brake line from there. I really don't want to reroute new hard lines..

Sorry for the delay. Good luck with that route. It's pretty tight in there but could be done I gues. The lines were brand new looking in the engine compartment but once the went through the fender wall they were rusted pretty bad. I paid to have bew lines out in. They charge by the bend and time I guess. They also filled the holes of the fender with rtv material.
Remember you'll be taking a little bit of you brake line length away thus shortening the new stainless flex abilities. |
Do it right the first time and don't look back on a mistake.

So if I wanted to cut the rusted nut off, re-flare it, and go that route. I'd need this: http://www.autozone.com/loan-a-tools...ool/69340_0_0/
And then a 10mm threaded nut, right? That's the stock size, so.. |
if you cut it and flare it yourself make sure you do a double flare.... single flares are illegal on brake lines.
