Steering U joint replace?
I've searched a bit and all the threads seem to be dated...
Has anyone come up with a replacement U-joint for the stock XJ steering ?
mine is apart and I'd like to replace it if possible...
or do you have to replace the entire shaft?

from my own research a while ago you have to replace the whole shaft. i'm pretty sure there is a u-joint somewhere that would fit (they had to make them, so it's only logical that it exists), but at auto parts store there is no such thing as a steering shaft u joint for sale.

a few years ago I had a 37 Cord with an 80-something Olds engine...
I asked for a specific length fan belt... he needed all the info on the car....
He said.. sorry, thats NOT in our database...
finally,
The manager let me find the correct size in the back room...
idiots.

i had one get sloppy on my 90 xj. had to replace the shaft. good thing i had spares.
my dad used to have an 89 toyota camry back in the day. his went out and he ordered a new one. he didn't know his was a japanese built camry, and they gave him one for a canadian made car. wouldn't work, had to return it. it was a coupler with two joints that slipped on and bolted tight.
at least they were simple jobs to replace them.

Well I went to Camerotas (driveshaft specialist) they said NOPE
non replaceable.
Went to NAPA and they have No listing.
I'm gonna throw it back in .... I don't feel any play in it... It's just a little ugly.
If anyone knows the part # or where I can get a new shaft online....
I may buy one and put it in later...
