stabilizer relocate

1 Attachment(s)
Looking to relocate the steering stabilizer from the drag link to the tie rod. I dont like how close the mounting is to the oil pan.

Before anyone says "you dont need one, it just masks issues" "you dont need one if your sterring is perfect" Well, i happen to want it to help reduce resonances and for pot hole stabilization. I have all new ball joints and tie rod ends.

I have found many kits for the JK system, but nothing for the xj. Should i just get a typical tie rod clamp like this: http://www.spohn.net/productimages/2...Wrangler-3.jpg
And pivot it down, or should i just keep it on the drag link?

Here is what i have now:

It doesn't hurt where it is. Your draglink, and thus the stabilizer are going to move downwards in flex situations (being as it's hard mounted to the pitman arm, which will move down with the body), so I don't see it ever hitting the oil pan (would probably hit the track bar first).

That being said, I've seen plenty of mounts that use a flat plate and a ubolt or two to mount it wherever you want (Curry steering comes with one, I think ruffstuff has them to go along with their 1-ton steering if you choose).

well, there are marking on the oil pan from where it has hit in the past. now if that was from the PO, or from me, IDK.

I know this is an old post, but I did have the damper mount clamp put a hole in my oil pan. Very inconvenient. so I am doing just what you are showing here. cant see why it won't work correctly.

For what its worth ruff stuff cover and stabalizer mount is the best set up.
the steering pictured looks stock. Id upgrade to a steering that the ruff stuff stabalizer kit will work with

And no the steering pictured likly wont handle ruff spirted driving at speed very well

I guess my question/comment wasn't clear. I am relocating my stabilizer from the track bar to the tie rod as shown. the picture is NOT my rig. My steering is all Rubicon and the Track Bar is Iron Rock.

another thing to look at is your motor mounts, if they are bad the engine is not sitting where it should be. As far as moving the stabilizer... do you need it? i have removed them on several of my XJ's and never noticed a difference.

Why would the steering stabalizer be on the track bar?
it should be on the tierod though some funky setups have it all out of wack on the drag link. These are Handy setups to take money out of our wallet but do little to if anything to help steering.

If a rig has a decent steering and is used offroad at speed a steering stabilizer might helo dampn some square edged impacts transmitted through the tires to the tierod then up stream to the drag link.
many want steering stabilizers because in the jeep World its conciderd cool or they are actually thinking steering will be improved. The coolness factor is the best reason because there wont be an improvement. Would be a better investment to put time and money into proper steering goemetry.
a well setup steering will out perform a not so well set up .

Post up some pictures of your steering and lets go from there. Or did you?

Miss matched steering and track bar could cause steering issues like mixing brands as mentioned

Thank you for your input. I am happy to have all the wisdom (and sometime sarcasm - not you-from folks)
Motor mounts are new all bushings from the control arms to heims are new. I dont have sway bars at the moment, but will be installing the Rock Jock anti sways soon, the Stabilizer has helped smooth driving on rough roads for me. Im running 35x12.5 and they do tend to accentuate things on the front.
Yesterday I did attach/clamp it to the tie rod and it worked well. the only issue is on the hard right turn with the suspension compressed, the dang stabilizer now hits the sway bar mount a bit. Time for more adjustment.

Thanks again for your input

Heres my set up.
35x12.5s wj steering its at home bashing the desert at speed crawling slow or cruising the freeway wirh 1 finger.Finger.

I ran stock steering with 2-3" lift and 33x12.5 stock track stock steering actually drove decent on the street and trail had some twang at speed in rough

Then to 1ton over the knuckle reworked track bar to match. Still drive street and trail well far less suspension steer with better angles but had a dead spot caused by tie rod roll.. installed the cure from ruff stuff and made it lots better.

Now currently on wj over the knuckle reworked track again. Precise confident positive fun almost ni suspension steer with now even better angles

I fab all my stuff from suspension to steering. Ive put stuff together wrong learned from my mistakes cut it apart and started over

Good steering track bar geometry in my option is one of the best Upgrades a jeep can recieve the best shocks long arm kits are nothing if the thing is a nightmare to drive down the rd.

One thing ive learned is the time invested is worth its weight in gold so a guy knows what is correct geometry is.

All steering set ups stock to wj can work very well but all can be done wrong making a person scared to drive theyre jeep over 20mph.
The after market World can intensifi this Problem or help make a solid driving jeep.
