Spring Perch Fit-up / Pinion Angle Setting on 8.8 Swap
Hey all,
Not sure if this belongs here or in the Fab section, but I figured it works either way.
So about a week ago, I picked up a geared 8.8 and am prepping for the swap from my stock 8.25 with HnT SYE and a front DS. I have the RuffStuff installation kit for the 8.8 with the appropriate spring perches.
Based on everything I've read, people generally recommend setting the pinion angle with the axle under the Jeep, tacking the perches, then pull it out and finish weld them. My question is: Is it possible to calculate the angle I will need on the perches without fitting it up? The reason I ask is because I don't weld, so I would need to put the 8.25 back in after fitup to take it to my local weld shop. Even though I've had the rear end out of it a bunch of times, I'd like to save some trouble if possible.
I've talked to 1 other guy who's working on his swap but has the IRO install kit, and he said IRO says to set the angle at 10 degrees. Seems a little bit of a rough estimate to me, but it got me thinking.
Thanks!
P.S. PM me if you're interested in the 8.25. Should be available within a month.

How would you keep the perch in the same spot?
No, don't risk the chance of them welding it on incorrectly or at the wrong pinion angle. Just pay a shop to do it all if you don't weld.

I was honestly I thinking I would JB weld them for fit up and just have my local shop actually weld them up. Much cheaper than paying someone to do the whole job, and the majority of the time spent on the job will be for fit up anyway.

Get your axle and all the parts then call around every shop that can do the work,If you find a shop that needs work today they will be cheaper then one that is busy. And don't be limited to a off road shop try body shops and a chassis shop if you have one.
