Default Spinning TRE on over the knuckle setup.

So its a fairly common issue when your tre spins while trying to tighten or loosen the castle nut. First trick to try is to stick a jack underneath the rod end to make that tapered end seat a little tighter.

What do you do when your running an otk setup and have the same issue?

I have used large pry bar wedged between the knuckle and the rod end and hit it with an impact with no luck.

Any suggestions?

usually when the tre spins, its time to replace them. I have only experienced the spinning when they went bad.

Its a 1 ton end that I barely used... but it might be bad and i will consider replacing it... if I can get it off! I would actually like to tighten it, but with it spinning I can't get it on or off.

Tear off the boot & spot weld it.

then yeah its time to replace. get a new one on warranty. one method for getting them off when they wont is to cut the nut off and use a hammer to get them out. Im going to be taking mine off tomorrow to replace with a heim steering setup, since mine are toast and just spin, along with not being able to handle 35s and ****ty IL roads.

Since its just a ball and socket joint I wouldn't think the ball spinning inside of it is bad. In fact I want to say I have seen this issue when installing new tre's.

If possible I would like to try and tighten it without damaging it. Tacking and cutting it would work if I didn't want to try and use it still.

In all my years experience I havent seen a spinning tie rod necessarily be bad just because it spins while tightening or loosening. If you've already tried using a prybar to hold the tie rod from spinning, the only other way I've had luck was using heat with an oxy-acetalyne torch and it worked like magic. Otherwise I just find a bigger prybar if the torch isnt available.

Same here.

Just because they spin does not necessarily mean they are bad/worn out.

I don't have a really hot torch like that but I will see what my buddy has that we can use to heat it up.

Heat it up, pry on it, and hit it with an impact.

Big x2 here. If its spinning, apply pressure if you can use an impact. I put a pry bar in between that castle nut and the knuckle or whatever you are attaching it too. I wouldn't use heat.
