Speaker Sizes
I was planning on putting 6.5" speakers in the fronts and rears, but I found the same speakers in a 6.75" for cheaper. Anybody ever put this size in their XJ? If so, how much material had to be removed in the front and rear? I'm planning on just using my dremel if I need to actually cut anything back. Thanks guys.

I adjusted my plan a little bit and probably won't put anything in the rears now. I'll most likely end up going with a 6.5" component set for the front, purely because there just aren't as many options for 6.75". Now I just have to combat this mounting depth issue.

I have a 97 up country with the infinity system. Before I took it from my dad he had a pioneer head unit installed. Ever since then it just didn't put out the sound that I was looking for. So I searched everywhere for the best low cost system to upgrade the sound. I found out that the whole problem was the factory infinity amp, its just out dated. The new head unit put out more watts than the old amp. Plus the amp only ran sub outputs to the rear and the factory infinity speakers can't handle just lowend bass. All I did to fix the issue was delete the amp and I ran the speakers to the headunit. And the systems is even better than before the new head unit. long story short, if you have the same setup don't replace the speakers unless they're blown.

Thank you for your input, but I flat out disagree. I'm replacing the speakers because I want a high end system. I guarantee that any speaker I'm putting in will be infinitely better than stock. It doesn't matter if it's the infinity system or not, a quality speaker upgrade will be an improvement. I'm not replacing the speakers because there is something wrong with them, I just want something better than the crappy stock sound. In your case, it sounds like the HU was probably wired incorrectly. If the HU has pre-amp outputs, those should have been used since the harness is intended for use only without an amp. Most aftermarket HU's have a built-in amp somewhere around 10-25W RMS, so running that signal through another amp will cause issues and that likely cooked your infinity amp, which would cause terrible sound.
