So, my 95 XJ is gutted. No carpet at all. It only has the seats, but it is pretty noisy inside. What can I do to reduce some of that noise from my exhaust, engine etc....

Put flooring in it

4 thick coats of Rhino Liner (complety dry in between coats helps)

No matter what you do youre not going to quiet it. My carpet is gone and I have 4 coats of bedliner on it thats says its a sound deadener too, but it doesnt seem like it. As much as I hate the carpet in there, getting wet, etc., Im thinking about putting it back in. Realistically, if I take care of it and watch the water (I NEVER soak the inside) the floor should last loner than Ill have her at this point (took 12 years for the floor to rust really badly and that was because of a leak). Really, if you dont WANT carpet, there isnt much you can do.

Go to your local stereo shop and ask for some dynomat, you will be fine after that. It is not cheap though and runs around 25 bucks for four square feet.

I put conveyor belt material from UPS throughout my entire floor. Just as quite as the carpet was but much easier to pull out and hose down. Any rubber material would work great

Had a buddy go to Home Depot and get the "roofing" insulation that looks like Dynomat. Adhesive on one side too. He said it less than 1/4 the price of Dynomat.

Really!? Hmmm I just might do that then. It's pretty much the same thing?

It is a little tiny bit thinner than the dynomat but works great! and Sooo much cheaper (inexpensive). My brother and I installed that stuff into his truck -on the roof-..works outstanding considering the comparison to the Dynomat that i have on my Jeep's roof.
I think we paid like $15 for the roll of it and that covered his single cab truck's roof.

You mean like ice & water shield? That **** isn't cheap but you get a hell of a lot of it. If you know of other people that want to do it you could split the cost.

Yeah I think what you're referring to is Quick Roof, aka Peel-n-Seal if you buy it from Lowes. Works pretty good, I did the floor in my Mustang with it. Only downside is it comes in like a 6" wide roll so it's a bit time consuming to do your whole floor with it.

Wouldn't the dynamat or similar stuff be a problem if water gets in? I cut the carpet out of mine when I redid the floors so I didn't put it back in. I didn't like the gray either, but now I plan on getting some cheap black carpet. Something weatherproof like the stuff floor mats in buildings are made of. It holds up to water/salt and is rubber backed which should be good for sound deadening.
