Goodyear Duratracs. I will never buy anything else and I live where it snows almost every month of the year. Got 2ft here in the last 10 days. Mine are 31s and I had 32s on the last XJ I had. I'm sure they come bigger if you want. There are E-rated ones for heavier loads and C-rated ones for lighter vehicles. My first XJ had E-rated ones and the ride was a bit rough on pavement cuz the tires didn't flex much. I have C-rated ones on mine now and they are much smoother. I only have to use 4wd on ice or if the snow gets over 12in deep. I've had wintermasters, hakkapellittas(sp?), Mickey Thompsons and they are all crap compared to the GY Duratracs!!! Only thing that ever came close was the older BFG Trail T/A. The Duratracs are studdable if you are gonna use them for just winters too. Here's what the 32s looked like which were actually 265/75/16 and measured 31.8":

I second that! I too am running duratracs on my XJ and love them! they perform great in the snow, on the gravel roads I often travel, as well as the washed out muddy roads I occasionally go through. I highly recommend them.

I forgot to mention they have the best lateral traction of any tire I've ever had too. The front end almost never slides into turns on gravel, snow or anything unless I'm going way too fast from the start! Kinda makes it hard to slide the rear end around for fun, but that just means it doesn't slide on off-angle trails so I'm OK with that too.

love my DT's. this is my second set. 1st ones were 235's when i was @ stock height. i went through 8" of snow and didn't use my 4wd. even @ a dead stop. they just dug in and went.
now i have 33x12.5's.DT's. i will never buy another brand. btw. i just dd drive mine, and my old 235's were almost 2yrs old and had 42k. i rotated them evry n5-6k. when i put the 33's on the 235s still had over half tread left. i **** you not.i've could have gotten 60k out of them, no problem. I was also very **** about tire pressure. i checked it once a month. i kept them @ 34 in the winter and 33 summer.

if u want a cheaper snow tire that ive had good luck with for strictly winter driving is the cooper m+s's not as agressive as dt's but significantly cheaper and they go like hell in the snow

there is so substitute for a true snow tire, though i doubt you'll find anything taller than a 33ish size. chains are your best bet. though you never told us what tires you are running now... i'm gonna go out on a limb and say theyre the 37" military takeoffs.

I've seen duratracs in 35" and they are used by all the massive plow trucks here in the Rockies so I'd bet they come even bigger than 35...
