Snorkel to 2'' PVC to 3'' filter - Restriction?
 

I'm modifying my snorkel to run into my engine bay through the fender, opposed to running inside the fender and coming up into the engine bay. All I did was cut another hole and trim my snorkel. I found that 2'' PVC fit perfectly inside the snorkel. I have the PVC going to a 2-3'' coupler that then goes to my 3'' filter, that then goes to the TB. Will this small 2'' piece that's less than 6'' in length restrict my air flow too much?

Not at all. You should see a wrangler air box opening!

The stock wrangler intake is horrible but for optimum flow the whole system should be no less than 2 1/2 id

There's an intake thread on here some where. It came from this site I'll try to find it but I remember that for sure. Any less was a bit restricting

Well the 2'' piece is just 6'' long. Is it that big of a deal? I have the snorkel opening, then it goes from the 2'' or so hole into the 2'' PVC then into an adapter where it goes to a 3'' filter, then into the TB. I know it's not great, but it should be fine, right? I just was pretty limited with things to do since I didn't want a hose running inside my fender since I've had nothing but issues with that.

So it's installed and seems fine.. but when I accelerate/floor it, it sounds like the snorkel is making a throaty exhaust noise. Like when I first noticed it, I thought it was the truck next to me with a nice exhaust. Then heard it later on and realized it was coming from my snorkel. Normal? Too restricted? Thoughts? I don't mind the noise, I just don't want to be causing damage.

It won't harm anything but performance. With an intake like that I wouldn't worry about freeing up the exaust.

How much performance of a hit would it do? I kind of notice a difference in acceleration. Is that 2'' that big of a restriction? Should I even consider widening up the hole and getting new parts and going to 3''?


Here's the setup:
Snorkel goes to a 2'' PVC that is less than 6'' long through the fender, into a 2-3'' rubber adapter that goes straight to the 3'' air filter, which then goes to I'm assuming the stock hose to the TB.

The snork itself is a restriction. By reducing it even more compounds the performance loss. Imagin breathing through a straw and someone pinches it. I'd get rid of the reducer.

If it was me I would trim the hole larger and swap over to a 3" pipe. Simple and quick, and I think you'd be surprised on the performance gain compared to what you have right now.
