SM420 Swap ?s
Has anyone done this in a cherokee? I've been doing research and haven't found a whole lot of info for a xj. Lots of yj stuff tho. Its going behind a 2.5. I know about the bellhousing and clutch parts I need to complete the swap. How much cross member work would need to be done. Was also wondering if there's any clearance issues I need to worry about. Any info would be great.

Thanks I've checked out Novak but no cherokee specific info. Guess I'll just dive into it and see how it works. Deal with everything as it happens.

way too much time and work for a SM420. you're better off with a NV4500, and not using the 231 as your (primary) tcase.

I am looking at the overall picture. The time and effort is not really a factor here. With the 4.88 gearing I should be into the 100 to 1+ crawl ratio range. I wheel with a very light foot. so collateral damage would be at a minimum. The only real drawback I see would be the actual streetability. BUT,,,,I am NOT looking for street performance from my jeep.
I was just wondering if anyone here had done this,,, found this thread and replied to see if the OP had either completed this or if they abandoned it for something else.
