Default Skyjacker Shocks??

Hey guys, I am looking to replace the shocks on the Jeep. It apparently has a 6" lift, short arms, soon to get drop brackets. The shocks that are on there are WAY too short I think, the upper bushing pulled through the upper mounting hole. I also think the upper mount hole has been enlarged over time so that will be welded and repaired at time of shock replacement. Through my searching, I think I have found the correct length I should need. My question is, does anyone have any experience with the Skyjacker Hydro shocks?

Front - H7049
Extended Length (in)28.750 in.Collapsed Length (in)16.560 in.

Rear - H7063
Extended Length (in)27.070 in.Collapsed Length (in)15.940 in.

I thought if I went this route, I wouldn't have to get the bar pin eliminator and the stud conversion thing for the front. Also, I am on a super tight budget at the moment but the ones on there need to be replaced. Eventually I hope to get 5100's but thats not going to happen right now and it isn't really driveable the way it is now...

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I just took a quick measurement... With the jeep sitting on its wheels, full weight, it is approximately 24 inches from the bottom of the shock to where the upper rod goes through the upper mount. Not sure if that helps but I figure more info would be helpful

well first of all, all white body shocks are the same so find whichever ones are cheapest and get those. second, if you go with that setup, you will have approx 4.75" downtravel and 7.5" uptravel. my guess is that you wont even come close to using all the uptravel, so i would look around for some different shocks that will net you more downtravel.

So are we thinking that I will need to run those bar pin eliminators and stud mount conversions in order to run longer shocks? Or just a smaller compressed height? Do you guys know of any that I might be interested in? Keep in mind, super tight budget just to get it ready for the winter.

For a little bit more money you can get the rough country 2.2 shocks... I originally had skyjackers on mine and the 2.2s ride much much better/are stronger. They are also still pretty cheap if you give them a call. f you tell them your lift, they will hook you up with the correct shock. The skyjackers were rough. I now have the blistens and they are real nice but I would say the 2.2s are your best bet for the buck.

Hydros ride very well and are valved light.

Nitros will be too stiff for most dd applications.

I know a lot of people will shoot off lame comments like, "you get what you pay for!!!" Etc. but really the skyjacker hydros are a nice shock and very affordable.

I have skyjacker nitro shocks in the rear and they are terrible on pavement but not too bad offroad. They can get kinda bouncy if you're heavy on the skinny pedal

I don't want to hijack, but want to learn a thing or two hehe. I'm getting parts for a 6.5'' lift. Shocks are coming up on my list. I was going to call RC and see if I can get a better price on their Nitro shocks. This will be my DD/weekend warrior. Would I be better off with the Skyjacker Hydros? I was looking at Skyjackers earlier, and saw them for like $44, but they said they're sold separately, and then in pairs? I'm confused lol.

Thanks

If you can afford it spend the little extra money on quality shocks

I had Skyjacker Nitros on my CJ5. I wish I would've done a little bit of research before I bought them. I just thought 'They cost more, so they should be better'. They were VERY stiff.

Nitro shocks are typically stiffer if im not mistaken, they are better for offroad use cause they respond faster, the hydros are softer and absorb more..

What's considered quality? Bilstein? I was going to hold off on those until I do long arms. Would I be satisfied with Skyjacker or RC hydro shocks for my DD/trail XJ?

Hmm.. I wouldn't mind saving up for nicer shocks when I go to long arms. But for now I need new shocks for my 6.5'' lift. You think any $40-50 Hydro shock will be the same? Or is there one that's better?
