Side trim removal

Hey Ya'll, I have a 2001 XJ, and Im thinking about taking off the plastic side trim on the doors, Im nervous that either my paint will be damaged underneath the moldings, or there will be mounting holes for clips under it. Has anyone done this? If so, Any advice?

This is an old picture of my jeep, but you can see the black plastic trim on the doors. Thats what im thinking about taking off.

Just glued on.

Throw some heat on it then get a rubber wheel for the rest of the crap.

Paint is usually fine but where the glue was is usually bit a rough.

Badges, emblems and moulding can be removed with 20-30lb mono fishing line.

Fishing line trick works good. This stuff is awesome for removing glue and whatnot. 3M 08984. Was recommended to me by a fellow forum member. I do get it cheaper through my store though. But a little goes a long way. It does not evaporate quickly. It worked everywhere I have tried it so far.

Eraser wheel, just go easy not to burn off the clear coat.
