shorten axle
well i finally got a D44 front. problem is, is that its from a J-truck and is something like 4-6" wider than what i was planning on. now i have been reading up on how to shorten axles and was thinking about doing it so that it would match a FSJ waggy D44. first, does anyone have any dimensions of how long the tubes are on a waggy 44. is it worth doing? and will it warp at all from all the heat?

j-Truck d44's are passenger side drop.
You'll need a different t-case to use that axle.
As far as narrowing an axle for an XJ:

as for the width. are you dead set on waggy width? if so id just find a waggy 44. they are everywhere for cheap money and you will be able sell off the j10 44 pretty easily and break even. i run a j10 44 and the width isnt outrageous. i prefer the stance and added stability, and it isnt as wide as a fullwidth. hell many people run low backspaced wheels on thier dana30s and are just as wide as people running highly backspaced wheels on fullwidths.

I should have stated that they can be either D.S. or P.S. drop.
