Depends upon the model, I suspect. I know that the Detroit Locker applications guide states that the Eaton Detroit Locker is not to be used on disconnect axles. I believe that implies that you'd need to put manual hubs on it.

With a select trac 242 Tranfer case, Putting a lunchbox locker in the front disables the 4FT function. You can lock the front but you need to go selectable. So basically you will have coverted you TC to a 231 with 2 4HI positions.

No, the locker wont affect 2HI. I would just do a locker in the rear and save up for an electric, OX, or ARB for the front. Putting autolocker in the rear wont hurt anything. Rebuild the stock LSD, when you do add a couple extra discs for the olld set to tighten up the LSD. Is there Friction modifier in the rearend?

Did it in my ZJ, worked alot better. It still nowhere near a real locker, but at least you will be able to do a 2wheel burnout on a dirt road. If you want a locker do the rear, wait on the front. D35 will be OK unless you go bigger than 33" and do real heavy rock crawling.

A locked D/35 running 33s? I would not run a D/35 on 31s and locked, with 33s locked, I wouldn't even drive it on a gravel road. I know some have been lucky running the D/35 and not breaking them, but I've seen people break axles with open diffs in loose rock so I would not advise anyone to spend any money on such a pos axle.

If he muds the sh** out of it and has no problems with 35 inch boggers, he should be buying loto tickets. Like I stated I've heard of guys running D/35 with lockers and large tires, but I've never seen them doing it. I've seen lots of D/35s break though. One guy with 31s open trying to climb an easy hill on loose rock, another one with maybe stock tires, and open in light mud with a couple of rocks. They just will not stand up to the shock loads. If someone wants to upgrade their Cherokee, C/8.25s are cheap and strong.

I would run the stock D/35 until I broke it, or wanted to install a locker, then I would get a C/8.25 with 29 spline shafts and lock it. 100-150 for the C/8.25 and it is a bolt on, add a locker, and if you are going to run larger tires add a disc brake conversion and I would be ready to wheel with a much stronger setup.

Exactly what I plan on doing for the jeep I'm getting today. Wheel it till I break it. I have an extra c8.25 27sp sitting around. Little bit of an upgrade, but I'm only running 31's open for now.

That is the way I would go, and if you wanted to upgrade to larger tires 1541H 29 spline shafts are fairly inexpensive. With the 1541H shafts you should be able to run 35-36 inch tires with a locked diff if geared correctly.

Feel free to explain how a locker will disable 4FT
