Rusty's Airtube & TB Spacer for XJ - Worth it?
When I tackle the tune up stuff I was going to ditch the stock airbox and look at using one of my cone AEM dry filters.
Is the Rusty's Airtube worth it or is there something else I should be looking at? Seems cheap enough and would look a bit nicer than pvc.
Also what about their TB spacer kit, is this something that most people do? Again is it a worthwhile mod to spend $$$ on?
TIA,
-Bill

A throttle body spacer on a XJ is a complete waste of hard earned money. Spacers work on throttle body injected vehicle and the XJ is multiport injected, MPI. Meaning instead of the fuel spraying directly into the throttle body it is sprayed through multiple injectors directly into the intake manifold. A spacer helps a TBI vehicles by increasing the amount of air inside the intake manifold that the fuel has to mix with, more air = more power. Since the injectors on a XJ are located right at the ports for the head, a spacer will not increase airflow.
And $30 for a 4" length of pipe with the stock restrictive elbow? Yea right. When i put my CAI on i bought one off ebay. Came with a full smooth pipe, new elbow, adapters for the emission lines, AND a filter for like $30 shipped. Just needed to make a enclosure to prevent sucking in the hot engine air (defeats the purpose).
(shown without the enclosure around the filter

Thanks for the advice and the pic! I wanted to ask before plopping down $$$...glad I did.
I have several AEM and K&N style cones laying around that I have played with DIY FWI setups on my others cars. I believe I should have one that will fit.
I will check eBay...was that a setup listed for our XJs?
Also, do you have a pic with the heat shield on to get ideas?
Thanks again for your help!

Well, wish I had seen this post before I bought mine. Anyways, I just installed it but I only have one line coming from the engine to the intake. Not sure what to do with the other end - do I connect a line to it, and if so, which one? Or do I plug it, and if so, what do I plug it with?
Not sure if anyone will see this reply but I figured I would post on a related thread!

I have the older style rusty's air tube intake, it only has one nipple on it.
I would match the outer diameter and find a rubber cap for it - home depot should have some, and the auto parts store might also have some. You want to block that port off entirely and avoid any vacuum leaks (though it won't affect how the motor runs because it is upstream of the MAP sensor)

Good deal! Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question. I currently have a wine stopper in there right now LOL but I'll go grab a cap!
