I saw a wrangler headlight company on facebook that i messaged about cherokee headlights a LONG time ago. they at the time did not offer any product for the XJ and the reason behind it was that they didnt find any quality product at the right value. nearly a year later they reached back out to me to let me know they had found a great manufacturer. I havent tried them but if you'd like, take a look

No returns policy and prices that basically match the current king, JW Speaker? Nope, I'd just buy JW Speaker if I was going to spend that much. I'm not fond of HID to begin with anyway--inferior light source to halogen and LED assuming equal optics and bulb/diode quality.

I plan on doing a side by side comparison with my trucklites sometime, but I love them. Excellent cutoff and they look great. The ballasts they include are very high quality. I never hesitate to recommend them. I don't think you will be disappointed. Did you go with a custom color?

$325 isn't that bad considering they include a good quality ballast, wiring, and projector.
As long as they stand behind their product if it's not sealed properly, and that they make sure both lights are aimed properly
The new JW speaker heated gen 2 lights are definitely more expensive

The main differences I used were: 55W Morimoto ballasts, Morimoto H1 bulbs (worth the extra money), and a different shroud than the Apollo for more of an OEM look.

I can't vouch for Rugged Retrofits exactly, but I built my own with similar components so I can say that they are worth it, and you'll never drive a vehicle without HID projectors comfortably ever again.

I'm probably going to build my own like you did, but unsure of what housing to start with.

ebay. make sure you get ones with plastic lenses. i tried multiple times to bake open the glass ones and shattered several. the plastic ones came off easy. required quite a bit of cutting and testing through the backing of the headlight to get the projector to fit properly (at least in my case). I used a lot of epoxy to get everything in place. it was assembled in a way that it would never come apart again (aside from the obvious twist and pull of the lamp itself.

Pilot WI-HL5A is the way to go. Looks like Rugged uses the same. You can use cheaper eBay no names, I tried with glass ones but didn't have the patience to open them properly and cracked one lens. It's possible, but time consuming.

Am I correct in assuming that you no longer have a high beam? Or is there something here I am not seeing?
