hey brothers, recently purchased this 2001 xj, some some loose steering issues, wondering if this may be an issue causing it? The drivers side has an extra arm from the long arm leading to the top of the axle, but the passenger does not. Any other naught appreciated as I’m not an expert, yet.

Steering issues are present around 45-50 mph+

Looks like a 3 link. But it appears you are missing your track bar, which would cause any number of issues. As far as I know, all the 3 link long arm kits require a track bar. The track bar is what centers the axle under the jeep, and not having it is very dangerous. I would recommend against driving that anywhere until you get that resolved.

I thought thentrack bar was the piece at the top just under the bumper, it’s a bit shrouded by the horrible lighting.

Yep that clears it up pretty well. Found one I think will work
well for my set up. It is made by these guys, https://www.core4x4.com/product/jeep...r-w-bracket-4/

So if there is not a mount on the axle, which it looks like my old steering damper was probably the original sway bar mount, how would I go about mounting one?

This guy seems to have a setup kinda like yours and I think you're looking at these sway bars

What i'm thinking, and someone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong, is that you are missing your track bar like what Castor said, which mounts around here and goes behind your tie rod. I could be wrong cause i'm still a lil nooby so feel free to correct me, but I think I might be right.

eh, after looking at it again the track bar is here, it's just hidden almost completely from the angle of his pictures

Is it possible there are dual sway bars? They link up at the same spot that or maybe this track bar isn’t suitable for this lift and the last guy just threw it on because whatever, perhaps it needs adjusted?

John-Ryan Dobbs 02-27-2019 06:23 PM

Ok update brothers, it does have a track bar, but it does not have any bushings, which I imagine it needs, also I don’t think it’s very effective also since my axle is an inch off center so perhaps an upgrade is in store

You need an Over the axle track bar at that height. You can see the track bar is making contact with the bracket just sitting at ride height. What is missing from the bracket is the stock steering stabilizer which someone replaced with dual fox stabilizers. Also, the upper control arm on the passenger side missing because it's a 3 link long arm instead of 4 link.

First thing you need to do is get rid of that crap dual stabilizer and sell them.

X2

What’s wrong with the dual steering stabilizer?

The list is shorter for the pros than the cons. There are no pros going with one. Waste of money that hides real issues that just make issues worse, plus another thing to run into offroad.

John-Ryan Dobbs 02-28-2019 09:23 PM

You aren’t wrong about it masking issues, I believe my track bar being improperly fitted and bracketed is the real issue, I have ordered a new one and found an over the axle mount I am going to install to solidify things on that front as per previously noted. I am at least going to give this dual stab a run and see what I think, I’m not going to be doing extreme rock crawling as much as just backwoods exploring off roaring so I think it may be helpful on that front so we will see. Also the current drag link tie rod set up is upside down from manynive seen on a three link set up, I plan on switching them.
