Default Rough country question?

I just bought a rough country 4.5 inch add a leaf kit for my 99 xj. I heard from my brother that the add a leafs will sag quickly? He says his jeep sags but I really don't see it, is this true, will they sag quickly?

Very much so. Which is better, one tiny strong leaf or a full pack of strong leafs? My Aal was done in about a year.

Idk, unless I got lucky. I am running a 3" add a leaf and its still going strong. It didn't sag as much as settle in. And I'm raping it with a lift block to destroy my springs quicker and it's been 2 years of dd and mild wheeling

from what i understand the rough country 4.5 inch aal is the same aal that comes with the 3 inch kit, but they give u a shackle thats 1.5 inch longer to give you the extra in the back..

i may be wrong but thats just what it seems like... i have rough country 3 inch with aal and it doesnt seem to be sagging but i do know when i upgrade to a 4.5 inch lift i will buy new re arch leaf springs for the back

also to add to the "sagging" definition. Stock leafs dont have a lot of arc to begin with when they were in good condition. So near flat isnt really sagging. Now if its inverted or S shaped, then you are starting with bad springs. But yes, better to get full packs but I went AAL myself.

not to completely trash on rough country, but everyone i know that got their full packs experienced sagging as well.

I define sagging as dropping below suggested lift height. If you put 3" taller springs in the front, and 3" taller springs in the back, and the back "settles" to 2" taller than stock, then it call that sagged an 1", since your back is now lower. It messes with front caster angle, shackle angle, and all sorts of stuff.

I'd think an AAL will sag faster than a full pack, and a low quality pack will probably sag faster than a better one...

AAL sagging is largely impacted by how worn the rest of the springs are. If you buy brand new OE leaf packs and throw an AAL on there, they will last a pretty good time, albeit not as long as a proper full pack where all the springs are set for that lift height.

If your original springs have already sagged, the metal is fatigued and not supporting the weight very well anymore. An AAL will get worn out extremely fast because that single leaf will try to support all of the weight.

AAL typically will wear out and start sagging in half the time a full leaf pack would, the exact time of that differs depending on how you drive your jeep both on road and offroad
