Rough Country lift kits
Okay, I know NOTHING about lift kits. What I'm looking to do to my XJ is make something suitable for traveling the rough roads (note...I said "roads", be it asphalt or dirt/gravel) of Mexico and Central America. I KNOW my shocks will need replacing, so I figure when I do that, I'll just try to improve the suspension.
So, I've been looking around for a kit to knock that all out at once. I can't find that OME kit I saw back before I actually purchased my XJ. I stumbled across this Rough Country 1.5" lift kit and I was wondering if it was any good? I'm kind of a believer in "you get what you pay for", so the price has me slightly dubious.
Any recommendations? Maybe I don't need a lift for what I want to do, just some good shocks??

Suitable for travel? As in comfortably? If you have to travel down bumpy roads the only solution is quite a bit of money.. Buying a rough country kit isn't going to do much of anything beneficial. You're better off simply buying some quality replacement shocks. The OME kit is still out there. That's the way to go

OME is the way to go if you want the best possible ride. A lot of OME stuff for the XJ has been discontinued. I have said this a few time lately but give Dirk from DPG Offroad a call. If its still available he can get it for you.

If you want to lift your Jeep, don't go with a 1.5". Go with like a 3+ but if of want just a better ride, go for better shocks

A lift is not required, just something to soak up crappy roads. No rock crawling or anything like that. I will keep looking for the OME kit and/or decent shocks.

If you can't find the OME kit, most budget boosts will suffice because you will still be using your stock springs. Most lift companies have springs that are stiffer than stock to achieve the lift. OME is one of the few that used good soft riding springs.
