rolled my jeep, couple of swap compatibility questions

Hey guys new to the whole forum thing. i have a question for any and all that may be able to help. I recently rolled my jeep and it has left it totalled. basically everything is untouched other than the roof doors and fenders. I want to swap motor trans, axles, ect to a new body/frame. I found a cheap one on craigslist but i'm unsure if everything will bolt directly in. Mine is a 98 cherokee sport, 4.0, np242, dana 30 front chrysler 8.25 rear. the one im looking at is a 98 cherokee (not a sport) with an np231. My question is, will i encounter any problems mounting anything considering it has a different transfer case and not being a sport model? also is there any other major problems i might run into? thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out.

As long as the CL XJ has a 4.0 all of the parts will interchange.
The t case is not a issue, neither is it being a Sport. It is just a package from the factory. Not a deal breaker.

You are very welcome. Good luck if you do end up swapping the parts over. It will be pretty straight forward.

Mmll52 I hope you dont mind if I piggy-back onto your thread here. I have a different swap compatibility question for the community.

Last winter my buddy and I did a major swap/build project. Part of the project was to swap an AX-15 tranny out of a 1990 XJ into my 2000 XJ Sport. The transmission worked great and we broke it in with a trip to Moab last March. AWESOME!

I am having one main issue that I think is related to the tranny swap. It idles great at start but when I drive it and come to a stop, pushing in the clutch, the throttle will bottom out and the motor dies. My OBD2 is throwing 122 (Throttle position sensor voltage low) and 123 (Throttle position sensor voltage high) codes. I am still running the stock ECM which was for an automatic transmission.

My question(s) - will an ECM out of a 1999-2001 XJ with Manual Transmission fix this issue? Does it matter if the ECM is out of 2WD or 4WD XJ?

Off road the np231 is a lil bit better,As a daily driver that sees snow the np242 will be better to have.

To the OP that swap doesn't get any better than that plus a lot of good spare parts left over for future use if needed, in addition to being one of the most desirable yrs.

Good Luck!
