Just finished my install today. I'm happy with the bumper, very good quality and the tech support at RH4x4 is very good. I ran into a coupla issues though, one being the stock gas tank skid. I had to elongate the mounting holes in the skid plate as they didn't line up with the mount holes in the bumper frame tie-ins, and although one of the guys at RH4x4 told me the bumper will go on over the skid, I found the skid had to go on last. The other issue is my tail light housings had to be modified to fit. It may be because my Cherk's a bit older (89'). I had to trim off the raised seam on the bottom and file out the mounting holes, but it all fits fine now, and man it looks great!

I am making a gas can carrier for one of my 4x4 buddies. After looking at your bumper again, you have a similar bumper. (It is mostly out of some re-sourced steel) Maybe I should go ahead and Take a few Photos one the way I am putting this thing together. I will post it in the jeep mod thread later today. I think it is turning out pretty slick. Unfortunately my tire carrier is not nearly as stout and I have to design some thing entirely different for my carrier. (but I paid $250 for mine off C.L.) So I am not complaining.

So glad I found this thread, been looking and comparing bumpers for the past month and just saw this one a few days ago. After what I already researched and seeing this thread, I will be ordering mine next week!

You might consider Rusty's front bumper(s). Prices are good, quality is excellent. This one is just over $400 and doesn't extend too far forward. Install was a breeze compared to the RH4x4 rear I just put on...

Looks great man! There are definitely some hurdles when installing, but the end product looks great, and is no doubt very very strong! Thanks for posting the picture!

Please do take some photos! I'd love to see what you've come up with!

Sweet! Glad this thread is helping more people head over to RH4x4. The guys on the phone have all been very helpful, and you will no doubt have a great experience with them as well. It is true that there are a few things that will probably come up during the install, but nothing that a little ingenuity can't overcome. Please post some pictures once you get it installed!

I have to add my pics. too some where in this site. not much of a write up to do because a Pics. is worth a thousand words right? Link to project; http://www.cherokeetalk.com/forum/f6...k-mount-62506/
Sorry it is on a diff. site but I have thoroughly documented all my projects there and what I can I document on C.F. but I can't on everything.

Just looked at your thread over on CT. Looks great! His bumper is actually the same manufacturer, RH4x4, so I know the mount you made would work lol. In your post, you said the right (passenger) wasn't working. What prevented it from working on that side? Was it not clearing the hatch?

Thanks!

It was just way to close. and If he went up in tire size it would be a no go. That is why he decide to use the other side to mount things like an axe and shovel that would just store behind the tire. He just painted it yesterday. I will up-date things as he completes the other side. I am pretty lucky to have snagged that piece of steal at the metal yard. They have a scrap yard that you can purchase at 50lb-$20 so I hit that before I buy the clean stock. I had extra rectangular tube stock from my trailer build, so the only cost for this Mod was hardware.

Thanks for the info. The low cost of this for you is awesome, considering how much RH4x4 charges for their jerry can mounts. It's actually not terribly high priced at $130, but more than I want to spend if I can make it myself. I like the way yours attaches better as well.

Here's the one offered by RH4x4: http://www.rockhard4x4.com/product_p/rh-2003-rt.htm

I've seen that can mount from RH4x4 in person and I didn't feel it was of comparable quality to their bumper.

I must say, we will be watching what we built closely I believe it will be strong enough but then again it is a lot of weight. He uses a cable lock going through all of his accessories including his gas can so worse come to worse we will be beefing up the tube that slides in the cross piece.

Just finally ordered mine this past Friday. Now to wait a month. Anyone recommend a place to get locking lug nuts for the spare tire?
