Rewire fogs with putco harness?
This week I ordered one of the aftermarket headlight harnesses and plan to install this weekend with new headlights.
Just curious, could the fog lights be rewired the same way. Had my Cherokee for a little over a year now and the fog lights have never worked and would like to get them working. What do you think? |
Nah, rewire with a relay would be better.
That said, have you ever tried running a wire from the battery to the fogs? You know fogs aren't bright anyway, right? |
This might help you.... I combined a bunch of other folks posts to make the graphic below.

Those factory fog light switches are notorious for failing. I have about 5 that are melted on the inside.
What happens is when people use them for extended periods of time the indicator light creates excess heat and literally melts everything around the contacts. With that being said, I eventually found one in good shape and rewired my fogs using a relay and the factory switch. When you install the headlight harness you will most likely run into the issue where when you turn your high beams off the high beams with stay on and the low beams will also come on. This is very bad for the bulbs and wiring system. I solved it by pulling the factory fog light relay and rewiring the switch so that it pulls power from the illumination wire. And, like stated, just touch the wires from The lights to the battery to test if they work. |
