Okay, so deal is I got springs, sway bar links, and a track bar relocation bracket from my brother in law but I don't know the brand or how big of a lift it is. All I need now are leafs and shocks. But, I was looking at revolver shackles for more flex. Are the Teraflex Revolver Shackles really worth 200$? And assuming my lift is 3 inches, what kind of shocks do I need to get?

 

From what I understand the revolver shackles are junk. Get a set of the relocation boxes it will help with rear flex.

 

I dont think a lot of xj guys run the revolvers. something about bad wheel hop maybe? not sure
but you do see a lot of shackle relocation setups to add better flex. HD engineering and liquid iron make the better ones

i just installed my teraflex revolver shackles about a month ago only because i had them brand new on the shelf for 5 years.

they work great. no wheel hop, even with a locker. great flex over the stock shackles too.

now my only problem is my shocks are limiting my flex. so i need new shocks.

but once i get those, i'm gonna cycle my flex to see if i need a limiting strap or not. also may need a sye so the drive shaft doesn't fall out of the t-case.
but i'll have my doubler in with a flipped d300, so no need for a sye for me in that case.

if you got the extra cash to spend, i say give em a shot. but if you're gonna splurge to get them, forget it. just get extended boomerang type shackles. maybe relocation brackets. i'll probably go with those later also. or a coil conversion....

i also scored an extra 100 points on the rti. lol. but with proper shocks and setup, i should be close to 1000.

 

I dont have them. but from what I read they have a tendency to unload. If that really is the case then I see how that would be a problem if one unloads on the street while taking a sharp turn. But again thats just from what I read. For a similar price you could get the relocators and a longer shackle.

 

Revolvers are junk if you really wheel, they can do some sketchy things if you play on any steep hills or inclines. Relocation brackets and shackles will give you plenty of flex and be much more predictable.



I was able to pull a 1200 on an rti with nothing hoopty on my suspension. Just 4 inches of lift and 35s, 10 inch shocks in front and 8s in the back. I could pull more simply by adding longer shocks, but there are situations where id rather lift a tire than have it drop even more.

 

I agree with KTM, I had revolvers front and rear on my YJ, I WILL NEVER RUN REVOLVERS AGAIN !

They would unload on me when I was not expecting them to, I switched to regular boomerang shackles an the Jeep was very predictable an It felt better on and offroad.

Relovers are great if your a mall crawler going for RTI Ramp scores .

 

i've wheeled mine in every situation possible. never felt them do anything odd. now that could be because my shocks only have 8 inches of travel. they only open a third of the way.
i can't see these unloading in my case.
so far they feel absolutely no different than a regular shackle. and i drive mine on the street every day.

i'm not defending them, i've heard all those stories too, but i can now speak with experience.
who knows, i may still get into that situation, but we'll have to see.

 

Of course they wont unload if you are limiting them, but then you dont see any of the "benefits" of running them and are better off with a properly setup shackle.

I used to compete with a guy who ran revolvers at every corner of his cj5. His suspension would do some scary things, he ended up on his lid often and never really did well. The next season he ditched the revolvers for some regular shackles and almost always cleans house. They are more of a gimmick product than anything. Anyone who has been Around this sport for a while knows that a stable rig with decent articulation always prevails over unstable rig with tons of useless articulation.
