Replacing Seats on 91 XJ
Hello,
The seats on my XJ (well, only the Driver seat) is bad, and so its the base. The seat for the passenger is in good condition but the base is all messed up. Rusty, and the previous owner put an L shape thick aluminum piece to bolt the seat on.
I just purchased 2 seats of a 1999 XJ in excellent condition, the base is a lot different. So, I am wondering if someone has ever done this before, and how you did it in order to get it done.
Thanks.

Im doing the same thing right now. putting 97 seats in my 91 xj. The ideal way to put them in is to get the cross braces that are spot welded to the floor. other than that you can make a bracket to bolt to the floor and to the seat bracket.

Grand Cherokee seats are supposed to be a direct bolt in replacement iirc, I'd sell those and see if your JY has any decent leather ones.

When i bought my jeep it had a newer seat in it. The previous owner bolted in a back bolt then from the front he made a bracket for the front bolt.

I did mine. i sat the seat in place and took a piece of flat metal. I just took and cut and shaped it to the seat leg and welded to the seat. That way it still uses the factory bolt location. i put 97 seats in my 88, now i got a power seat

I have a set of Scat seat adapter mounts for a 84-01 Cherokee to mount aftermarket Scat Rally 1000 seats sold by summit racing that I would let go reasonable to someone that wants the aftermarket seats, they look great in the Cherokee and holds you down in when you get crazy on the loud pedal. Ok...I looked around for the Jeep GC...the base of the seats are the same as the 99...so it is NOT a direct bolt on to the 1991 Jeep Cherokee.
The base for the 1991 is A LOT thinner than the other bases, so factory bolt on...even in the back is not at option. So, after thinking around on how and what to do, I finally did it...I will take pics once Im done with the passenger side and will post them.
The newer base is 13" in the back bolts, while the older base is 11"...keep in mind that this makes the base that support the seat thinner too...so using the old base is not an option. I will post a video when Im done on how, and what I did.
