Default replacing front diff

ok so im looking for a replacement front diff. currently have D30/front D35/rear. found a D30 but it came out of a 94 wrangler. would this bolt right up or would i need to swap mounts/parts. any suggestions on what i can replace my current trashed D30 (cheap and easy to do)? its a 98 xj with select track if any of that makes a difference. brand new to the jeep game and would like it to remain as enjoyable as possible.

No such thing as a D40. The YJ axle would be a pain cutting and welding on new mounts when you can find one with the right mounts for less than 150 bucks. Doubt it had the right gear ratio either. Stick with XJ fronts and later models, 95 or so and newer, with the larger u-joints. TJs and ZJs will bolt in but will be low pinion and the TJ will likely have a higher gear ratio than what's in your XJ.

I'd be more worried about the Dana 35 than the Dana 30.A 30 can handle 33's with a locker-if driven correctly.

With a '98-you have a good axle-big joints,non CAD,3.55's,high pinion,........what else?

I assume you have a 4x4 XJ.

The front axle in the Xj is fine put a truss on it, beef up the control arm mounts , and add c braces on the knuckles. It'll hold up to 35's and a locker. As for the rear. Swap it with a 8.25 form a 97-01 Xj throw a small truss on it and upgrade the shafts to chromoly it'll stand to 35's also. Or do a 8.8 swap
