Replacing doors
I have been throwing around a thought lately to replace the doors on my 98 XJ. I hate the power windows and power locks. i would prefer to have roll up windows and manual locks. does anyone have any thoughs on this/ Once again its just an idea, but i didnt know how hard it would be or what would it take to do it.

Totally agree with you. I looked for awhile to find my xj until I found one that was all manual. Every now and then its a pain, but honestly I felt like I decreased my potential headaches

Seems like it would be a matter of hinges, I know there was a difference between some year span, I'm on my phone and internet takes days or I'd look it up for you. That would be the only problem I could see as far as replacement, that and maybe what to do with the extra wiring

Sorry i havent been on in a few days. And thanks. ya, i didnt know if they could be replaced. hinges are one thing then i guess i could just disconnect all of the wires going to the door and somehow get them out of the way. but then the problem is finding other doors to replace the ones i have now.

You don't have to DO anything...
Unbolt the old doors and bolt the 'new' manual doors on.
Like Rusty said... You could fix the windows and locks for a fraction of the cost of decent doors and paint.

First off, whats going on with the power windows and locks that you don't like? I have power everything, and I also made my doors removable and I couldn't be happier. Plus, I don't know about your local JY's or if you have any, but doors here in NY are about 60 bucks a pop + a core charge, so for about 150 bucks, you get 2 doors, that you still have to paint. I say, make them removable and throw away your key fob, making you use the key every time. As for the brackets, They changed in 97, so anything 96 and down is going to be different. I do not know if they will line up with your brackets.

The problems im having with my windows is that all of the windows work on and off except the drivers widow which always works. so if your riding shotgun and you want your window down...you dont always get what you want. And with the locks, every once in a while when you lock all the doors, once again, only the drivers door locks. so i never really know if they are going to work.

Mine is also my DD man. thats why I said "removable" its not a permanent thing. If it looks like rain, or its gonna be cold, I keep the doors on. I mean, I live in New York. its cold 75% of the year haha. As for your switch problems, have you checked your fuses?

fuses all look just fine. i have 3 miles of dirt road and then another 30 miles just to get to town every day so having the doors of would make it dusty as hell...so thats why i was thinking about new doors but if i can somehow convert mine to have manuel windows and locks that would be great.

Ok, so what about a short? Have you pulled the kick panels off and looked at the connections? And converting them won't be easy, but I don't have experience with that, so I don't know for sure. As for the dust, I haven't had a problem with it and I drive the back roads of northern PA and have no problems. You would only have to worry if your runnin like 10.5"+ wide tires, or if your not runnin flares
