Default Renix open cooling system upgrade.

I figured I would post my findings on this subject.I set out trying to use the Dakota inline filler. That is a no go. As the stock upper hose on my 88 has an in side diameter of about 1.25". The Dakota tee is 1.5" and Will not work without running down hoses and fittings. so after some research I found two options.

1) moroso tee it is the correct size and is a direct splice in option. about $50 after shipping.

2) 85-89 Toyota mr2 cooling tee. Its a handy little unit much the same as the Dakota tee only 1.25" and was a direct drop in. available at JY eBay or the dealer. $15-75 depending in the source.

I used option 2. Scored one for $5 at the local JY.

I purchased a new hose and clamps to splice into. It is.very basic plug and play.

I did away with the factory tee with the heater valve. Used 5/8's heater hose for that.

Also pulled the pressure tank and added a cheapy over flow. Make sure to attach the bottom nipple to the small outlet on the tee.

when you do away with the factory tee heater valve does it change the operation of the heater, and how much cooler are you running now that you made the changes?

Eventually I am going to have this radiator recored. This is just phase one of my upgrade. I had a lot of leaky hoses. So I figured why not do it in stages. I have all the hoses replaced now.

save on the recore and just upgrade the radiator to a later model...cheaper radiator also..least here.

X2, easier than a tee into your rad lines and just works better. 96+ cherokee radiator.

What are the benefits of an open cooling system? I've been looking around and I can't seem to find a good comparison

Preference. Some people just don't like dealing with closed systems...plus the pressure tank on a renix has a tendency to pop. But, they're so cheap and easy to replace...dunno.
