Default RENIX heater valve

Ok, so I previously upgraded my radiator from the renix version to a normal looking one w/filler neck and cap, and replaced the surge tank with an overflow tank but to save time and money, I simply coupled the hoses from the old surge tank together.
Now, the hose section from the valve to the t-stat housing has formed a tiny leak. I could just replace that section of hose but, I was wondering if it will hurt anything to just eliminate the heater valve and just run new hoses straight from the t-stat to heater core and from the water pump to heater core.

I got rid of mine, no reason to have it. Especially since you converted to an open system.

I am about to do the same. My been leaking at the heater valve and I haven't been able to find a one piece design, expect at jy. I going to run a 97+ waterpump return line I think thats the one, since its longer and fallows the valve cover gasket.

Thanks............that's what I was hoping to hear. Do I need to cap off the vacuum line going to it?

No matter what. If it's a closed system, open system, HO, Renix: Ditch the valve and plug the vacuum line.

Does it matter which way coolant goes through the heater core? The old RENIX system was routed all crazy. I checked the routing before removing any hoses and this is what I found..........One hose went from the 3/4 fitting at the t-stat housing to the 5/8 fitting on the heater core. The other went from the 5/8 fitting on the water pump to the 3/4 fitting on the heater core.

Didn't make sense to me so I installed a 3/4 hose from the t-stat housing to the 3/4 fitting on the heater core and a 5/8 hose from the water pump to the 5/8 fitting on the heater core. So basically, the flow through the heater core is now reversed. So far, every thing seems to be working fine and there's no leaks.

If I remember correctly the hose from the thermostat goes to the bottom of the heater core and the hose from the water pump goes to the top... because heat rises you want it going to the bottom of the core and then being sucked oit from the top. Something like that

Actually no...........it doesn't matter. I had a brain fart when I posted that question. The heater core's function is to warm the air as it passes through it, to heat the vehicle interior. Since the liquid is being forced through via the water pump, which direction it flows is irrelevant.
