Default Regearing done right??

I have decided its time to regear my xj with a Dana 30 and C8.25. I have the gears and the overhaul kits, so now I just them installed. I've done some calling around for installation and got a wide range, from $600 to $200 per axle, what are your thoughts??
Also the C8.25 is currently a 27spline with plans to upgrade to a 29spline in the future. After the 4.56 gears have been installed with the 27spline carrier, how easily can I remove the carrier and replace it with a new Detroit 29 spline locker?? The carrier seems pretty easy to remove and replace but I could be wrong. Im thinking I need a reality check, before I nickel and dime myself to death.

Maybe the best bet is to learn how to install the gears myself. It's not a dd and the only thing I gain by having a shop do it, is they get me back on the trail faster where Ill just break the next item. Wheel it, break it, fix it, and repeat !!!!

You will need the R/P set again changing carriers out. I personally would find a 29 spline 8.25 and put the gears in it. X2 on learning yourself, if you will never set up gears again, its not worth buying the tools required for this, 2 sets of gears done yourself, will pay for the tools. Not to mention, doing your wheeling buddies gears.

They aren't that hard to set up but keep in mind you're working with thousandths of an inch and if you are off you get to buy another set of gears. That and the cost of set up tools is why shops charge so much. It also take a good bit of time to set them up right.
