Any opinions on rebuilt transmissions?
Rebuilt engine?

Any experiences anyone has had? good or bad.

Going to look at an XJ that has had both rebuilt...
Is this ever a red flag, etc?

I would think that it would depend on the rebuild kit used and the person doing it. And that a thorough inspection would determine the quality.

If you don't know what you are looking at......or hearing.........take someone that does.


Rebuilt is not a red flag.

Newly rebuilt.....as in, installed yesterday? maybe. But if the owner had it rebuilt 6 months ago and has 3K miles on it and all is well.........you'll be fine.

 

If its a 00-01 those had had a head that can crack so a rebuilt engine would be normal.As far as the trans the auto aw4 is pretty good but nothing is 100% bullet proof.As far as who rebuild both if its a mechanic shop or trans shop i would trust it,If its a guy at home with a kit i would pass on it.

 

Agree or his buddy did it at his house it needs to be inspected. Which I would pay the 50-$100 if you like it and have it checked out by a garage or shop including the drivetrain.
