Default rebuilding AW4

So I am looking for a kit to rebuild my transmission. 01 xj. nothing really wrong at the moment. it has 150k on it. my wife uses the jeep for alot of field work so I was going to rebuild it before something happens. Are there any performance kits? I am going to get the trans-go shift kit, was wondering about the converter and clutches. The moment this motor dies I am building a 4.7 stroker, kinda why i want the trans to be tuff.

sorry for the long post. any thoughts?

The stock rebuild kits come with high energy clutches for some of the drums I dont remember which ones at the moment. As far as breaking the trans you wont with a stroker they are tough in stock form as it is. There are a couple companies out there that you can get raybestos red cluthes for the AW4 they no longer make the blues for this trans. Another thing you could do is use a pump out of a lexus trans since the pump gears are thicker and stronger and you can get 5 pinion planets for these as well

I can't see the advantage of rebuilding something thats not broken....these trannies last a lot longer than 150k with no issues. Motor probably has a long ways to go too unless it is already showing signs of going down hill.

I say if you have the itch to stroke the motor and rebuild a trans go buy used ones that are fried and rebuild them. That way they are ready to go in.

I like that idea, you could pick up a bad trams for next to nothing and that way there is no jeep down time

Thw AW4 is a beast! The motor will die before that tranny goes out for sure. If you want to do anything to it that would extend the life of it - change the fluid, new filter, and a tranny cooler if there is a lot of stop and go, towing, or slow driving involved.

Thanks for the input guys. The main reason i was asking was because once in a while when I hit the gas sounds like some slipping in the trans. Ive changed the fluid and filter and put a trans cooler. maybe i will look for a spare
