rear locker.... Weld it??
i would love to do the whole lock the rear end up thing but man lockers are just plain expensive and take a lot of work.... so my alternative weld it? I wanted to know what everyone thinks. is this a good idea what are some pros or cons to just welding the rear.

Question one.. What rear end is it?
D35 not advised.
Question two... Is it your daily driver?
If so not advised to weld it.
Like stated above lunch box lockers are cheap ie under $350.

Do you mind chirping tires, excesive tire wear,& if the weld fails,I assume you'd destroy most of your rear axle.Or at least your gear set. So,that cheap upgrade could wind up costing you roughtly $500 (new/used gear set- plus installation).
OR,you weld it,love it,& have zero issues.Every situation is different.
I've thought about this ALOT.I'm going with a lunchbox locker. You can't complain to a weld if it fails, but you can to a manufacturer.
Good luck.

You DO NOT want to do the Lincoln welder set up. It is not recommended for street use. You will be having to put out more money replacing the rear end later. It's only recommended for off road.

Speaking from a little experince you can weld the spider gears up...worst that Will happen is they come apart and you have to get in there and just pull the remnents and put your ratchet in and just buy a Spartan ratchet for back up

Would it not make more sense just to put the spartan in the first time? Besides much worse can happen besides the welds failing, lets say he has to make a sudden turn and the roads are wet, this will almost always result in failure to turn or complete loss of control over the vehicle. The tire wear that will result will surpass the cost of a locker rather quickly. Anybody who chooses to weld the rear is in the same class as those who remove their front sway bar, they should not be on the road for the safety of others

I've run several welded rears and currently run one and you will wear out tires faster and get to hear the chirp on slow turns. Handles in the rain just like an auto locker so that arguement is lame. If you do weld it weld it right. I prefer nickel rods but have used a mig as well. Weld the spider to spider and spider to carrier not just the spiders. Welding just the spiders you take the risk of breaking and killing the ring and pinion. Mine looks like I stuffed a softball in there but I don't have c-clips to deal with. I prefer to weld it outside the housing so I can clean it up and don't have to worry about splatter getting in my ring and pinion.
