Rear Disk brake swap DONE !!,,, need EBRAKE cables
All right now,,
This past weekend I did the rear disk brake mod.
Went to the salvage yard and picked up the necessary parts and had a 3 day adventure getting it all in, plumbed and working correctly.
First I do want to say that it really DOES make a difference.
Second, this is NOT a "one day" job unless you have a couple friends and a shop. I did mine in the driveway and it did take me around 20 hours total to get in in, plumbed and correctly set up.
All this now leaves me with only one issue. The emergency brake(s).
Since my XJ has 6 inches of lift, the factory 1996 rear disk brake emergency brake cables are not even close in length.
So I am asking others here that have done this,,,WHAT E-BRAKE CABLES did you use to complete the installation? And I already replaced the e-brake pads with new.
I DID search here but found conflicting info,,,
Thanks all

Try Morris 4x4, they have e-brake cables for our XJ's that have the rear disk conversions. I think (don't quote me) that you can use JK e-brake cables not 100% sure about that.
I have 5.5" of lift & have a disk brake conversion on my 8.25, & went with the Morris 4x4 cables. Though I haven't slid the 8.25 under my XJ yet.
Good luck

I have a few,,, which part are you looking to reference?
I used the backing plate(s) and other related parts from another 96. It was a Laredo I believe.
It all was a total rusted mess. It took a few hours to get them cleaned up and painted. I mainly used my original lines, Just cut them to length and re-flared them without removing them from my rig.
A "tip" for you all thinking of doing this. ,,,,,,
LET GRAVITY DO THE BLEEDING.
After I got the bleeders opened ,, I let them cracked a bit open until there was fluid slowly dripping then closed them. When it was time to bleed them fully it only took a few pumps to finish that part.

I cant connect my phone to my PC here at work. I will upload what I have when I get home.
You WILL have to grind the backing plate so it fits over tha axle. This took a while to do. You will have to remove the axle from the rear end also. This only takes a couple minutes though. If you do this just get NEW ebrake pads and new brake pads,, don't skimp. They are cheap and the knowledge of having new VS used is always good in your mind.
I did use the guide here to do it.

Do you have a link or a part number for me to check out?
Would be nice,,, I looked at Morris and found several but the pics they have aren't the best and neither do they show the end that connects to the arm on the backing plate.
Thanks

Can't post link, here is what you'll want to search for:
Just saw it states it's for Teraflex conversion only. They do have standard cables. I'll see if there are any part numbers on mine when I get home after work.

Not too far from me! I'll add you to my buddy list on here. I won't be ready to wheel for a long time unfortunately. My XJ has turned into a total restoration project. I did do the disc conversion as well though, and still need a passenger side cable. might hold off until I'm lifted though.
