Awwww thanks Overland.
so the disks need more pressure since the drums are self energizing...i get it now. so i can take just the proportioning valve right? i dont need the master or anything else?

Correct all you really need is the spring inside the prop valve.

The one on the left is from a ZJ

I took out and swapped ALL the internals. If you check carefully the (what i call) plunger has a different OD to it, where it doesnt seat within the XJ's endcap tightly. I figured the engineers did this for a reason.. so i made sure to swap in all the ZJ components. Endcap, plunger, spring and o-ring.

Default Disc rear brakers

I was looking at a cherokee on ebay and the seller installed the rear disc brakes off a jeep liberty to his xj. Is this any different than from the grand cherokee rear disc brakes?

Some of the newer Cherokees had the Chrysler 8.25 rear axle, same as what went on the Liberty (KJ), so the brakes are a bolt on swap. Just make sure you get the Liberty E-brake cables especially if you have a lift and need longer cables.

Iam about to start this drum to disc....Do i really need the prop valve?? Doesnt it only make it so you brake evenly on all 4 wheels instead of the front braking like 70% and the back 30%?? Because if thats the case, I dont think id swap that over since thats how most cars brake anyways

ok so let me get this right. if the grand has a dana 35 then all that has to be done to get the backing plates to fit is to make the hole bigger. to fit on a 8.25

Pretty much, but be aware of this:

The studs mounting the backing plates/caliper brackets to the 8.25 need to be replaced with the ones from the donor Dana 35 as do the lug studs. Tap them out with a hammeer at the JY.

You will have to bend your metal brake lines to reach the flexible hoses on the calipers.

You dont have to use the proportional valve. The brakes will still function fine, however the braking power to the front will be different than the back. How much different I have no clue. But i know plenty of people who run the swap without swapping the valves.

uh read post above yours and/or learn how modern cars brake systems work today. Front brakes usually overpower back buddy... Things are made for a reason hence the reason i already have a prop valve. My question was if i need to swap new one to have even braking in front and back

You really should have a prop valve designed for rear discs. That is what 413maxwedge is trying to get across to everyone.

I have been wanting to do this since my brakes arent the greatest with the 33's. Is the brake booster a must? And I think I read it some where on here that the front brakes of a grand can be put on a XJ too? When I go to the JY, would like to do it all at once. Good info. on the thread Thanks guy!!!

Swap is directly the same. Open up the holes on the backing plates to accomadate the bigger axle tube and your good to go!

You can modify the ZJ E-brake cables. Look up SRmitchell. He did it and had a mini write up.
Or buy the KJ or liberty cables, as they will be bolt on and go

No the ZJ 93-98 front brakes are the exact same! The WJ are the upgrade, but you need knuckles, calipers, rotors, steering and a bunch of other goodies to do that swap!
