rear coil conversation

A few questions for those who have done it. Did you order a kit or build yourself? How do you like it? This is on my list for the 8.25. My 8.5" lift is just to high, I plan on going 6.5 and rear coils.

Total cost for your own build? Did you 4 link? Rear track bar? Sway bar? Better yet...build thread? Lol

my build thread is in my sig

total cost including my axle was around 700 i think? but it really depends on what parts you want to use, and the current price of DOM

it's a double triangulated 4 link, so no track bar. and currently no sway bar, but i may add an Anit-Rock setup later on.

Upper shock mounts have to go through the floor?

have to? no... but i found it easier to do it that way because of the shocks i wanted to run.

but there are a few different ways to mount the shocks that people have done. check out pirate4x4 for a few other 4 link builds

Me and my brother did it on my xj, we just decided leafs werent good enough, so we ditched them. Put coils in there and a 4 link long arm setup to match the front. When we did it we built our own control arms, but now im running Arc Fab long arms all around and i love them.

As far as Clayton goes, you pay for quality as well as beefy parts. My LA upgrade weighed 95lbs. Plus, they send a ton of stickers!

I've been looking into a rear coil conversion as well. For people that have this done to their jeeps, what does it improve? Besides ride quality are you really gaining that much in articulation compared to leaf springs?

89 xj stroker 08-28-2011 10:56 PM

Ya ride quality is better. I have no before and after flex pics because we took the jeep from stock to lifted and coils in the rear, but ya in theory it will flex better especially if you long arm it. And its not that hard of a mod to do, just lots of work.
