Default rear axle shim question RE 3.5 lift

I am in the middle of my lift and I bought shims for the rear but am having doubts about putting them in now. I am installing a RE 3.5 super flex wit new springs. I bought 6 degree shims and am wondering if they are just waayyy to much?? My question is who is running shims with this lift and what degree? Will the 6 degree be too much and if so what would be a good one if any.

I can't really help much but I was sent the same shims for my 4.5 inch lift from rustys so take that as you will.

It really depends on your lift. No 2 jeeps are a like. You may or may not need the shims. You are gonna have to measure your driveline angle. If its not binding up or anything you might be ok without them.

thanks guys, I guess my real question is, Do I just put the shims in and then if I dont need them take them out, or leave them out and if I do need them put them in? Also which is easier taking out or putting in? I have RE springs and they have a 3/8" centerbolt, the ones that came with the rustys shims are smaller diameter like 5/16 or so. I would rather have the bigger centerbolt if I can. The other thing is the smaller centerbolt will work in the spring pad hole without hogging it out. If I hog out the hole for the RE pin and then want to use the shim and smaller bolt will it cause an issue? Will the hole be to big then to use the smaller centerbolt?

I have the RE 3.5" on my '99 and I had to switch from a 6* to an 8* shim to get it right with the SYE. You'll just need to see what works for you. As much as we want to help you, no one here can guess what you'll need for your application. You'll get the whole gamut of 2* to 8* installs the more you look around.

I have the larger pin with the RE springs. The RE shims come standard with the smaller hole. You have to drill it out to make it work with the RE pin. It takes two seconds to drill it but there's no going back.

Good luck.

Thanks guys, I installed them just figuring they would be better than not. All is good so far but have not got it on the ground yet. Still fighting the trac bar and brake line in the back. Also had to cut off the sway bar bolts off the axle. Im guessing these bolts are pressed in and made a 55 torx dummy style! Now I have to re drill through the bracket that the bolt piece is now part of.

I did install a rusty's TC drop along with the shims. If I get more vibes than I have then I will have to do a SYE I think. I will get my toe set and steering wheel centered tommarow when I have time and see how it goes then.
