Rear Axle Question/Help- Dimensions
Starting to look into rebuilding or replacing the 8.25.
What is the stock WMS to WMS dimension? 60.5"?
Or flange face to flange face measurement?
What is the distance between the center to center of the spring perches?
What angle do you weld the spring perches to pinion for 4-5" lift?
Thanks.
Thinking about a narrowed Dana 60 with 5x4.5" axle flanges, 4.56s, 35s on 17" wheels, TrueTrac diff and 13" discs with 4 piston SRT8 brembo calipers. Will also need to shorten the driveshaft.
Front? IDK, Want to stay with 5x4.5". ?44/30, built 30, also found a 60/30 hybrid.

If you are only going to run 35's, a 29 spline 8.25 is plenty strong. I personally would never run a 60 with 35" tires. The difference clearance would be awful.

I must agree a 8.25 29 spline and the D30 will work fine for the 35's lots here running them I will be soon. Now on 33.12:50x15"'s/4.56's/Detroit Lockers, stock axles front and rear with no issues. I do air down to 15 psi. also (no beadlocks now) about the max.
I run an SYE and shims with my 4 1/2" lift. Seeing your planning on 17" wheels you might want to reconsider gears for your setup.

I don't want to break. Running 360hp/400tq.
Used for recovery work dragging friends out of mud holes and 'shock loading' the axle. As well as towing on the street and DD.
The extreme strength and piece of mind of not breaking is worth the sacrifice in ground clearance IMHO.
I can either build a 8.25, 4.56, 35s, TrueTrac diff, CM axles, trussed
or a Dana 60 narrowed, 4.56, 35s, TrueTrac, CM 5x4.5" axles, no truss, for about $500 more.
I want to keep my 17"x9" 5x4.5" rims and 35" Duratracs. Already have SYE and using shims.

Yeah, in the first post I was just asking for the dimensions.
I wasn't really asking for advice, opinion or permission. But I really appreciate all comments and thoughts to help me validate the idea.
I don't want to go 1 ton full widths. And nobody has done a D60 5x4.5" on the street.

The only D60 you'll be able to narrow and run a 5x4.5 hub will be the c-clip versions. They have 35 spline shafts but the c-clips are what I hate. That being said it won't be bullet proof. I've broken shafts on mine when I was running 35s and several more now. Also good luck with the truetrac, mine worked about as good as an open diff and I chunked it after a couple of rides. Lift a tire and it's worthless like any other LSD. We have a shop here that does the narrowed 60s but to be honest you'd come out cheaper with an 8.8 and it's already close to the right width and comes with disc. It's c-clipped as well but people run 37s on them all the time and you won't lose as much ground clearance.

This is what I had in mind-
http://www.dutchmanaxles.com/dana-60...and-axles.html
They can narrow a Dana 60 and make them 5x4.5", No C clips. I guess it doesn't hurt that they make their own axles.
My experience and understanding with the TrueTrac is they do not work like any other LSD.
I don't want to run a 'C' clip, it breaks and you're done.
10-4 on the Warn, realizing one can't and stopping before something breaks and getting out the winch, is always the winning move.

Housing dimensions- top to bottom
Chrysler 8.25 - 10.5"
Dana 44 - 10.5"
Ford 8.8 - 11" (lose 1/4" compared to 8.25/44)
Dana 60 - 12.0-12.5" (lose only 1" ground clearance compared to 8.25 or 44)
Ground clearance on D60 on 35's is the same as 8.25/44 on 33's.

Have you considered a 9-inch? Pretty comparable in strength, can get 35 spline shafts, and has better ground clearance.
Food for thought.

That's a 60/9" hybrid, forgot about those mostly because of price and like stated a 9" is a good option and they can be found in XJ widths, Early Broncos, Rancheros and full size cars. Some come with 5x4.5 bolt patterns but they are 28 spline. With a 9" you can run up to 40 spline but that would be overkill. 31 or 35 would be fine and with a good chunk you'd be at one ton strength.

a truetrac is a waste of money, i had them once , got rid of them you might as well stay open. spend the same money for detroit, they work .
