The real stroker story
So I have done the research, read all the postings, checked out all the websites, now I want the inside skinny from people who HAVE DONE IT. I have a 99 Sport that I am looking at stroking. I already have a crank and rods from a 258 that are fresh and ready, but I want to hear about all the little things that we all know come up when we do this stuff. Should I get a new cam, should I go through the head, are injectors and a header a must, should I bore the block if it only has 124K? Tips and techniques from ones who know would be of great help, thanks in advance!
Current setup FYI- five inches of lift, 33's, is not a DD until hunting season, every year gets about three thousand miles during hunting season but rest of year is just a toy, plans are for 4.56 gears and long arms in next couple of months.

Been on jeep strokers, lots of good info, just looking for more personal experience type info. Dont want a V8 in this one, I like it economical and reliable for the many miles of hunting, thats why I want better info about the stroker. But I will be looking at doing that in my 93 that has a seized engine, I am helping a buddy put one in his right now. I'm thinking chop top and full size axles on that one also.

guy down the street has a dd xj and a dedicated trail rig. the trail rig has a stroker to 4.6l. and basically he says it was a lot of work for a lot of trouble. he says there's a little power gain, sounds a little better, but he's have problems with it already and he has 22,xxx miles on the engine since it was stroked. it doesn't have any highway miles and the only roads it see's are back roads to get to trails. in my opinion after seeing this, I wouldn't stroke it. if the 4.0l isn't enough for you, get a v8 xj or go get a wrangler with a 350. the 4.0l has always been plenty for me i don't need a racecar
