Reaching out.. Need opinions.
I have a 98 Cherokee. 4.0 Auto with NP231. I also have a cowl intake. I did the head gasket, steam cleaned my intake mani, new plugs + wires, upgraded exhaust mani. This was all about 2.5k miles ago. Lately, (especially if I hit a hard bump) my CEL will flash and my truck will sputter out. I took a shot in the dark and replaced my computer. But it still happens from time to time. I'm also thinking this is a bad ground. I looked it over and couldn't come up with anything. This morning I went to leave my house and about 50 yards up the road it died out completely. Rolled it back in the driveway, wont even turn over now. I took the boot off my throttle body and got it to start, I noticed a puddle of gas laying in the bottom of my intake manifold. Checked all my plugs and they all look alright. Since I got it to start without the boot on, I tried putting the stock air box back on, but still came up with nothing. I also read that the check valve in the pump assembly could go bad and is common in the newer XJs, I read to keep it on accesory for about 10 seconds before turning it over. Didn't work. Has anyone had a similar problem or an idea?

It could have a 1-Trip code stored and not have a CEL on, toss a scan tool on it and make sure. And while you're at it see if the crank and cam sensors are both working as they're supposed to.

so what happens when you turn the key? it doesnt turn over at all? does it crank? you need fuel, spark, and air; you obviously have air and it seems like like fuel as well, so check for spark. I reckon you blew a relay out steam cleaning it.

I had the manifold steamed when I pulled my head, it was totally separate from everything including the electrical components. It would crank, but wouldn't turn over. Figured it was a spark issue because I had unburnt fuel in my manifold. I also put the stock air cleaner back in to make sure that my modified intake wasn't the problem and that I was getting air. Checked my plugs yesterday and they all looked OK. I went out to start it this morning and it fired right up. Idled fine and everything. Hooked my snorkel back up and still.. everything is running fine. I didn't even think about it at the time, but yesterday we had a lot of rain by me. Today is beautiful and sunny. I'm leaning towards something weather related, maybe my filter is getting wet some how? Or something electrical is getting wet? I'm not too sure, any ideas?
