If you can't afford a locker you can't afford the tires you're going to burn though running a welded diff on the street. If you have a spare vehicle for dd it wouldn't be bad.

a locker isn't exactly good on tires either. auto lockers are locked when you're on the gas pedal anyway you're only at a loss around turns. the guy drives a mile to get to work and hes gonna swap out the whole axle later.

just weld it

If you "Lincoln Lock" it, limit your road miles. Take your spare and save for a "drop in" locker that's more streetable. Your tires and wallet will thank you later on down.

Are you speaking from experience or just what you've read online?

People around here typically speak from what they have read online. But I had a ranger that was spooled and it ate up tires pretty quick. I spent $1200 for my last set of tires. A welded diff is not for me. But if you have a short commute and want to give it a shot, go for it. Let us know how you like it.

Anyone who has a basic knowledge of what a differential is and what it does can tell you this, if you street it after welding, the rear tires are going to go fast, you're gonna be chirping tires around every corner. Have I done it? No. I street mine daily, and happen to like my tires. LOL. If you're going to swap soon anyways, give it a shot if you don't street it that much, see how you like it. I feel it would get old quickly. .02

Spools are cheap and reversible ... Never weld when you can spool. Also remember welding may not hold if not done right or possibly even if done right and then you will grenade your carrier.
