Default Questions concerning a 3" lift.

I am looking to lift my '00 XJ 4wd 4-door with an 8.25 rear and I am looking at spending $1200. Right now I have my heart set on a 3" OME lift kit from DPG's but realistically all I want is the 3" lift and 31s just for the looks. I really don't see myself rock crawling but I may take up a trail some day.

So am I going over kill by buying this kit when all I want is the look..., and the ride quality? If the kit isn't over kill then should I opt for the heavy duty or moderate duty leaf springs. I was also considering getting the nitro sports shocks versus the standard OME ones.

On top of all that I need to know what else I would need to be sure I don't run into any issues such as driveline vibrations. Also I wouldn't buy the 31s immediately after putting on the lift and would need to continue riding on my 235x75R15 Duratracs until I scrape enough to buy the new wheels and tires. Would this be alright to do? No foreseeable problems running like this other than the Jeep looking a bit funny with small feet?

Appreciate your replies!

If your just going for looks, get a cheaper kit. You don't need a 1200 dollar lift if your just cruising the streets. Check Out Rubicon Express for a cheaper, yet high quality setup. And if you want ride quality, get the standard duty or light duty springs. Heavy duty will be a bit stiffer 'cause they are usually installed when you have a winch bumper, which is alot heavier.

If you get a cheaper kit, you would be able to buy tires right away.

I would go with the OME 2" kit.... Both my friend and I have them on 30" tires. Looks good and rides awesome...... We both have HD rear springs and it does ride nice. I would go that route. Btw, you will only spend $800 not 1200. With 2" you don't need to worry about driveline issues that can arise from 3"+ lifts.

i put that buget boost kit on my uncles 2wd and it was not worth the money. i have that 3.5 kit and like it. the ome kits are just way over priced for what u get. go to quadratec.com or 4wd.com and look around.

Lol I paid 1200 for my lift, wheels, and tires altogether.....and the wheels and tires cost 900 so I only paid like 300 for my lift, and that's including the new jk shocks I just bought

The most important thing I am looking for in the lift is that the ride remain as close or better than stock. I also do not want to go higher than 3" as my wife is 5' tall and she would need to get a running start to get in the Jeep if I raise it any higher. If I can avoid any driveline modifications that would be swell too.

Basically a 3" lift that can handle 31s without the need to cut the flares. Is it possible? That's why I'm here with you fine gents.

At a 3" lift will I need anything other than what is already included in the RE or OME kits?
With either kit I should be more than capable of tackling the less aggressive trails, should I be interested in doing so, right?

I hear the Badlands are nice. May give that a go once I figure out which lift.

id go w/ the RE 3" kit w/ upgraded shocks. you can keep the cost down a little, but still improve the ride quality w/ the nicer shocks. it seems that RE is pretty reliable, etc... another thing is that there will be a noticable difference in ride quality. you cant replicate stock/better ride quality with a lift... the best thing you can do is just spend more for better parts... imo

As long as you don't choose an odd wheel like I did (3 1/2 backspace, -13 offset) they stick out like 2 or more inches from the flare...they rubbed at stock lol. My cousin has a 31s on a 3 inch lift like mine but with stock wheels, his rubs the lca's at completely full lock, and it rubs so little I've never heard it once, even when I drove it..only when you goose it at full lock. Other than that no rubbing ever and mine setso higher than his so his has actually probably sagged down to 2 inches. His has a rancho lift and rides better than my jeep did stock lol

Edit: have no idea why I quoted you lol

Bastard pack leaf springs, Rustys 3" coils and JK Rubicon shocks. Less than $400 and 3 inches.

Id say $400 is the max, I had to spend $100 on my leafs. Junk yards are pricey around here. Its been done for under $300 though.

If you want a quality lift for less, just go with a 3" from Rusty's. Great products!
