Question about side view mirrors
Does anyone know if the power mirrors from a 96 XJ will fit on a 99 XJ and if they will fit will the plugs match up? Does anyone have pictures of how they bolt up and of the plug? Does the 96 have 3 bolts like the 99? I don't like the bubbly look of the 97-01 mirrors.

I would be inclined to say yes they are physically interchangeable since I think people can put the 97+ onto earlier models to get folding mirrors. As far as electronics, look up some wiring diagrams and see if you match the wires together.

Couldn't find a diagram to save my life... been looking for one. I have a hanes manual but its for an 86 and it doesn't have the mirror diagram for the 97 and up.

going through this myself. my 96 has manual (cable) adjust and is break away. however...when flopped over they break off. LOL.
I had an offer for some from a 99....but i dont think they will work as I dont see a cable on the 97+

You didn't ask, but I'll say that the newer mirrors are better if you can get over your dislike for the appearance. They offer a larger viewing area, but where they truly shine is in their ability to fold in when you pass thru tight spots. Saved mine many times like that, whereas when I had the stock mirrors in my '92, I changed out those clippy things it seems like every month because they broke so easily.
Regarding wiring - no, they don't match up. IIRC the older mirrors have 3 wires, the newer have 5. I'm a wiring dunce so mine are not wired. But unless you're looking for heated mirrors, it doesn't matter. Once you click the glass into place it stays there. Also you don't need the remote for the same reason. How often does anyone adjust their side mirrors?
Edit: Since the '96 is a pivotal year, the harnesses just might fit with '97+.

drivers side mirror
Hey Cherokee Forum nation, looking for someone to school me on what mirrors are compatible with my 2001 XJ sport? Will the drivers side mirror from a grand Cherokee work or are they different? My current mirror has electric adjust and folds in toward the driver. Thank you all for your knowledge!
