Default Question about PowerTrax Traction System.

I was on Quadratec.com and I was looking up lockers for my xj. I came across the PowerTrax Traction System. It says it does the same thing as a locker but is quieter, cheaper, and easier to install. Has anyone used this yet?

If you are talking about a powertrax no-slip locker. I had one in my 03 Liberty with an 8.25 differential, for about 2-3 years and loved it. You just need to get used to how to drive with them in and that's with anyone you get. But, they are very easy to get used to for what they offer.

Looks like it operates similar to a Detroit locker.

Detroit Locker operation
PowerTrax operation

The Detroit looks like it's gone through more of an evolution, but the PowerTrax is very inexpensive. Keep us posted with your decision, I'd like to see how this turns out. :-)

Yup, pretty much, you still use your factory carrier and replace the spider gears. Takes a bit of getting used to. Would recommend a Detroit over it definitely, but if you're on a budget, def. something to look into.

For a street machine or light to moderate wheeling, they're fantastic. I've installed one in my old '01 Durango and it worked great. I'm planning to do my 97 Cherokee and my 06 Durango as funds become availbable.

I plan on putting one in my 98 Silverado. So tired of that peg leg rear end.

I'll do the jeep later on down the road.
