Default Question about blocks vs. shackles

I was at the exhaust shop today getting my exhaust put on. The guy who was doing the welding told me there's no way the exhaust tip would clear the shackles because they are so big. I told him that's fine, just have the exhaust turn down slightly before the exit like the stock exhaust does.

He told me that most lifts he sees don't use aftermarket big shackles like the one on my RE lift. He said that most of the lifts he sees use blocks underneath the leaf spring on top of the axle.

This got me to thinking, is this true? Are most lifts done that way as opposed to shackles? If so, is there a benefit to one versus the other?

Keep your shackles. That's the proper way to gain lift, as opposed to lift blocks. Lift blocks are for bro dozers :b

Bro dozers... Hadn't heard that one before, made me laugh out loud!

Well that's what I figured since all the nice aftermarket lifts seem to use shackles, not blocks.

I just didn't know if there was an advantage of a shackle versus a block and vice versa.

EDIT: Guess I answered my own question... https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/blo...le-lift-59534/

The reason he sees more blocks is because its the cheapest way to lift.
