push start ignition

So I had someone break into my jeep while I was out of town, and they busted the ignition all to hell in an attempt to steal it (though I had the starter out at the time :) ) and they drained my damn battery in the process.

Id like to equip my jeep with a push start ignition with a killswitch, has anyone done this on their jeep? If so can you let me know a simplified version on how to do it? I have looked online and they are all different processes. Thanks!

Here is writeup on how to do a kill switch. Can't help with the push button part though.

jegs has a push button starter, might have to use a MDS 6-AL ignition box though

use the ciggarete liter as the push button

how come you would need a different ignition? couldnt you just use the push button with the existing ignition, just make it think you are still using the key like before

Well I dont want to drop 300 on a new ignition & key. Whoever broke into it did a good job in hack 101, the plastic gear peice that actuates the ignition, is broken in half, I used the half I could find and a screwdriver to try and turn it over. It wants to but Im gonna require some ether. But back to the ignition, thanks for the writeup on the killswitch.. I just gotta figure out what wire goes where when it comes to me wiring up the push button. Im just assuming its all electrical so it shouldnt be too hard, its just in these old vehicles all the damn wires are the same in colour and gauge.

I just did one yesterday for about 20 bux went to schucks bought a 35 amp toggle and a push button for about 5 bux each then some 14 ga wire if you buy a chiltons manual you can look at the wiring diagram and see what wires you need to tap into I can do a full write up tonight if you want but I'm on my I phone at work right now.

Push button

all u do is attach a wire to the wire post on your starter that will be two wires one on big post and one on small post get a button with two connectors on it run one wire to one connector and one to the other it will be just like taking a screwdriver down there and starting it manually make sure your ignition is turned on and push the button mine has been hooked up like this for months it works great just remember to unhook your positive battery post before you start

On older cherokees theres a purple wire on ignition circuit . Just cut it and splice in a hidden switch all done.
