Default Pulling a Leaf from an RE pack

Morning XJ gang,

Going to tackle me rear-end today and while back there it's time to get rid of my racejeep rake. My RE pack for some unbeknownst reason gave me ~6" of rear lift rather than the advertised ~3.5".

For a quick fix I'm going to ditch a leaf until I can pull the trigger on some new leaf packs from IRO. Is it as simple as opening the 2 clamps and pulling the leaf out and trimming my centering pins back to length (I've got 4° shims as well).

And I suppose I'll just pull the bottom-most leaf out to maintain the closest resemblance to the pyramid style layout of lengths.

Thanks guys!

How tall are the shackles, and are they vertical? Did RE send the proper leafs?
With BDS the warranty is not voided if a leaf is removed. Not sure about RE.
You have the proper procedure but you will need two C-clamps to hold the leafs together while removing center pin.

Thanks Steve,

I've had these leaves for a while now so warranty isn't an issue. I've just not had time to correct the issue.

I'm also not running shackles, I have Liquid Iron's slider boxes which delete the shackle set up. Previously my stock shackles were nearly vertical (the reason behind the slider purchase).

I've learned that sliders and RE Leafs don't mix well due to RE leafs lately have been made a little longer than normal. Tested my 4.5" Leafs on a buddies xj with sliders and he had close to 8" of lift after install and the slider was trying to bind up frequently because of the angle of the leaf to the slider. Actually had to pull the leaf up in order to bolt to the slider. probably same issue you have going on with your 3.5 but the leafs are short enough that they aren't making the sliders bind.

In that case the leafs must be taller than 3.5". I could see getting 4.5" from a pack rated for 3.5" but not 6".

Makes sense. I'm sitting at a little over 7" from stock (measured from tube to frame) with my leafs and sliders. Where were your buddy's leafs binding? My driver's side slider box was canted when installed and the outer edge of my leaf is polished from rubbing. Ended up jamming some washers between the box and frame to push it out as much as I could.

Somethings not right I have 3.5" r.e. springs, 1" boomerang shackles and 0 lift shackle relocation brackets along with an 8.8 and it sits level with the front with 5.5" coils

The outer edge on both driver and passenger and it would actually almost reach the end of the slider slot with just me sitting on the bumper. He has the bolt in slider not the weld in and it just wasn't very happy with the RE's. He ended up getting 4.5 leafs from rough country and it was like a night and day difference, I think mainly the main issue with Rubicon Express leafs are they pretty much make sure that you will sit at about 5.5 even with a full pay load on the back end. Which is great for shackles but not so great for sliders.

I've talked with them about it and even the part numbers match their 3.5" kit so I'm at a loss

I might have to look into the RC leaf packs then since I'm 5-ish" up front with the RE coils from the same kit.

Thanks for tall the insight gang.
