Default PSC high volume steering pump reviews

Sorry if this has come up before, couldn’t find anything when I searched for it.

So I have gone through multiple stock power steering pumps and each one of them have leaked. So I am thinking that maybe a remote reservoir pump would be better. PSC makes one for the XJ, but I can’t find any customer reviews or anybody that has used it. Anybody here have any experience with this?

I’m planning to do a 3.5” to 4” lift with 31” tires, it will be used mainly for camping on the beach and a DD.

P.S. It just failed a state inspection because of the power steering leak.

Why are they failing so often? Are you installing them right?

I wouldn't go after market, that's just opening up a new can of worms. Maybe try using a higher quality pump, flush the system before starting and install an inline filter in the return line.

I’m pretty sure I’m installing it right, I mean it isn’t a difficult setup. And it always leaks from in between the canister and the pump, it’s like the O-rings never sit right. I haven’t taken them apart so it’s coming from my auto parts store like that.

What brand would you suggest and where can I get it from?

I have the AGR version. I like it, makes the steering a little easier and it makes 40% more push in the box.

Does that use the stock reservoir? Do you have a picture of it by any chance?

Mine has a Chevy engine, so I have the type one pump. You have the type 2. Those can be used with the stock reservoir or with a remote

I just had mine rebuilt by PSC for $225 plus freight which wasn't cheap due to the weight. But, in reading a lot of bad reviews of off the shelf units at the big box stores and looking at the $800 price of a PSC unit I stumbled upon the fact that they will rebuild your unit for not a whole lot more than a rebuilt big box one. Turned it around in a week.
