Pre cat delete on 01'
I was wondering if there are any headers that will fit an 01' Xj that will allow me to delete the pre cats but keep the one main cat. I dont know what i would have to do with the O2 sensors either. I want to get a set of headers, high flow cat, super 44 flowmaster, and 2.5 inch piping from the headers. is there any way to do that on an 01'? thanks in advance for any answers.

it's illegal to remove catalytic converters
let me know if you do it so I can cash in on the 10% snitch reward on your (up to) 25k fine  |
its not illegal to remove them where i live. just to not have them. i have already had a talk about it with a buddys county cop brother. and any way what cop is going to look at my exhaust and be like "Hey! your missing two out of three catalitic converters! Show me your hands scum bag!!" lol

Headers for years before the 5000 cats were on should work fine for you. With a normal precat and a loose inspection station you would pass smog too

No inspection in the good ole' state of Illinois! :)

Same in MI! It's nice.

I dont do inspections in CA either.
however, it is a FEDERAL offense to remove and not replace cats. this means that whether or not you have inspections in your state, its still illegal. That means any cat, if your car came with 3 you have to have the same 3 cats, the county cop obviously doesnt know what he is talking about. The EPA doesnt allow for relocation or removal of ANY catalytic converters unless it is replaced with another approved converter in its original location... |
Ok so basically i need to sell my 01' and buy a 98 or older so i can legally have the exhaust i want. I <3 the EPA!

I dont have to take smog tests and I do not know anyone that has ever taken one.. I think that might be referring to Chicago.. I feel it is my duty to destroy the environment by wanting an exhaust setup similar to the ones that these heeps came with before they were all equipped with California emissions equipment.. sorry:bangin:

Does anyone really think it would be worth the effort for the extra 1 or 2 HP gain that would be achieved. Exhaust flow is affected very little by a catalytic converter. Its a 4.0L if you want a real horsepower gain build a stroker.

Now you know why 99s are considered one of the best years....
Screw the greeners and feds. 2 cycles, lawn mowers, asphalt roads, cows, and roofing shingles all pollute more than cars. Putting more strict emissions controls on every car is masturbation at this point. But, hey, that's what this whole "green" movement is about anyway- making yourself feel good. |
